Kohinoor

The Kohinoor diamond was stolen from India in 1849 during the Sikh Empire. It now sits at the center of the British Crown Jewels and is displayed proudly in the Tower of London. There have been many demands for its returnwith no response. This crownserves as a present-day reminder of the scars of colonialism and the violence inflicted on many nations by the British empire.

Fill my Void

I’ve often reflected on party culture and how normalized it’s become to binge drink alcohol and hookup with strangers as a way of celebration. Indulging in such activities from time to time can be freeing but when one becomes dependent on this ritual as a weekend routine, it can feel like you’re stuck in a cycle.

Over 10 brands and logos can be recognized, a critique of trend following and how modern advertisements subconsciously influence the objects one should interest themselves in.

Daddy's Money

A man speeds down the freeway in his expensive car while flexing a Rolex, an image I’ve seen an unfortunate number of times. The dash signals low fuel which is a small hint that this person may not be living as lavish as they portray himself to be.

Only Feet

The online platform Only Fans allows users to create a profile to share pornographic images to paid subscribers. It’s become a normalized way for young (mostly) women today to make money, as it’s become a big source of income for many influencers and celebrities. This piece isn’t meant to place judgement on sex workers, but rather the glamorization and exploitation of “get rich quick” schemes.

Godfather

A portrait honouring my grandfather in his old age. The nature surrounding him represents his young spirit. The dove on his shoulder represents my grandmother and the baby cubs on his lap his grandchildren, his legacy.

Appropriating world renowned portraits, this ongoing series replaces subjects with Indian women of colour. Centering the faces of identities discriminated from portraiture in the past, these works question the history of this composition and who deserves to be captured within it.
